OUR INSTRUCTORS
Zhijie Managing Partner Chia Zhi Jie, started practicing traditional karate as a child. In his teens he became frustrated with the lack of effective training in karate. To better himself, he started to cross train in MMA and kickboxing alongside his karate. Realising that karate could benefit from the training methodology of modern martial arts, he started a school and introduced realistic training and live resistance as the primary modes of training. Zhi Jie is a 3rd degree black belt, and an amateur Kickboxing fighter. He is a NROC certified coach, and has been teaching karate since 2016. |
Wanfa COACH Yeo Wan Fa picked up karate in 2009 and has been coaching since 2012. He was the gold medalist in the 2013 Karate Union of Singapore <60kg male kumite event. He excels at high volume pressure fighting and clinching. His personal style favours close range in-fighting and takedowns. Wan Fa is a 1st degree black belt in Goju Ryu karate. Apart from karate, Wan Fa is also a 5th kyu in Japanese Jiujitsu. He has accumulated competition experience in both arts over the years. |
Yibai (Dean) Coach Dean Li Yibai is a former Sanda and Muay Thai fighter with over 50 fights under his belt. He is also a Taekwondo black belt. He is an accomplished fighter, representing his province in Sanda. He is well versed with the rigours of competitive fighting and brings with him many years of competitive and coaching experience. Yibai is a FightSpur karate blue belt, and teaches in the adult and kids classes. |

Bryan Assistant Coach Bryan Ong is a home-grown instructor of FightSpur. He started learning karate as a student of Zhi Jie and has gotten quite proficient at it over the years. Bryan has accumulated much experience as a competitor, representing FightSpur in both karate and kickboxing competitions regularly. Bryan is an orange belt, 4th Kyu, under Zhi Jie. He teaches in the kids classes. |
Shijie Partner / Assistant Coach Shi Jie picked up karate in 2017 and has been coaching since 2020. She has a gentle, patient and compassionate teaching style, and has an aptitude for interacting with children. She is an avid competitor and loves passing down the knowledge she has attained while competing. Shi Jie was the Gold medalist of the female open division at the 2022 GRKAS annual championship. Shi Jie is currently a blue belt, 3rd Kyu, under Zhi Jie, and is active in the local competition scene. She teaches in the kids classes. |
